Android OS ”Honeycomb” Being Developed Especially For Tablets
Recently, the executive of LG has stated that the forthcoming edition of the Android OS of Google is being developed according to the tablet computers. The name of the new upcoming version is “Honeycomb” and it is projected to work efficiently with bigger screen than its antecedent.
You will find more than few tablets that are being operated with this operating system. Some of them have been already released and some are going to be revealed shortly. For example, consider the Samsung Galaxy Tab Google has developed its operating system in support of smartphones and not the tablets.
The most recent version, Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) works greatly with the maximum 854 × 480 screen resolution. This screen resolution could be a good one for devices with 5 inches screen or smaller, but it could not work with the 10-inch display. The director of the mobile products of Google, Hugo Barra, stated in September that the Froyo OS has not been optimized to use it in tablets.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab works with the 2.2 version which has 1024 × 600 touchscreen display. Nevertheless, it requires the custom modification to be made in the operating system by Samsung.
Normally, Google doesn’t expose even a small thing about their newly introduced upcoming versions of OS. Recently, LG executive has stated that Google is now working on the development of Honeycomb. He described this new Honeycomb project of the Google as “tablet PC-version Android OS”.
There is not enough information about the Honeycomb, but it is almost certain that it will support the higher screen resolutions. An unofficial report has been exposed a few months ago stating that the Google OS Gingerbread would now contain the support for 1280 × 760 display screens. Now, it seems that this feature is in fact being introduced in the next version.
Executive of LG said that this latest Android OS namely Honeycomb would be released in the first quarter pat of the next year. The Gingerbread is estimated to run at the end of this month. Lately an employee of Google let slip that the Google’s Gingerbread would have the name as Android OS 2.3. Considering that it will comprise various important modifications, it’s almost possible that the Honeycomb would be known as Android OS 3.0.
There is also some other information that has been leaked out of the Google indicating the Android OS 2.3 will put forward some tweaks and modifications into the user interface, but not any major changes. The most possible thing is that when the Honeycomb releases, most of the major tablet makers such as Samsung will provide operating system upgrades quickly to users.
