Changing Soft Keys (Shortcuts) In Your Windows Mobile

Soft-keys are the shortcut where menus are being displayed. Some commands run when their corresponding hardware buttons are pressed on Windows Mobile. The soft keys along with their menu/command names are situated, and are being displayed at the lower portion of the screen in the form of soft key bar.

In the latest WM devices having touch-screen facilities, soft-keys are displayed on the screen and can be pressed as well as triggered directly by pressing on LCD, but you are not actually tapping any hardware button.

Windows Mobile 5 as well as Windows Mobile 6 including version 6.1 will by default display “Phone” in Pocket PC Phone within the left softkey as well as the “Contacts” will be displayed in right softkey option on Home screen.

To alter or modify the soft-keys present in Windows Mobile is absolutely free, and no additional program is required, as only Registry Editor is necessary. One of the freeware Editors that is available is the PHM Registry Editor, but you may require a magic trick in order to install Registry Editor.
