How To Configure Hotmail To Outlook Express 2007 – POP 3 Settings
If you are a little annoyed with the Ajax based Windows Live Hotmail interface, you might want to use the e-mail clients for downloading the emails from your Hotmail account.
Hotmail is one of the biggest free web-based e-mail service providers, but at the same time, they do not provide support for IMAP, SMTP or POP3 server access. This drawback prevents you from downloading the emails to your local machine for offline browsing or storing.
Well, there is a workaround where you can use the special HTTP Server from Microsoft to configure hotmail accounts on e-mail clients like Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Outlook 2003, Outlook XP, and on Outlook 2007. These e-mail client versions are able to serve the HTTP servers of Hotmail.
Please be reminded that the Vista Windows Mail does not support HTTP servers. So, configuring Hotmail or other similar e-mail services will not be possible on this version.
In this guide we will let you know about how to configure your Hotmail accounts on MS Outlook 2007. By doing so, you can enjoy the easy and advanced user interface for receiving, reading and replying your Hotmail messages. Besides, you will not have to log into your Web-mail each and every time you want to access your Hotmail account.
If you have used the IMAP protocol for configuring Gmail on MS Outlook 2007 in the past, you will notice that the method of using HTTP Server protocol on MS Outlook 2007, for configuring the Hotmail account is very similar.
Let us walk you through the steps that are involved in configuring the hotmail accounts in MS Outlook 2007. The process is pretty much similar in the Outlook 2003, Outlook XP, Outlook Express, and in Windows Live Mail.
Firstly, make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet. Then go to the programs menu on your computer and launch the MS Outlook 2007. On the menu bar, go to the Tools tab. You will now get the pull-down menu, where you’ll need to select the ‘Account Settings’ option.
On the left hand side, you need to click on the button labeled ‘New’.
The new wizard for Add New E-mail will open now. You need to select the option which reads, Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP. Go to the Next step…
The wizard will now take you to the Account Setup part. Here you’ll need to enter the required fields namely, your outgoing emails display name, complete e-mail address with @msn.com or @hotmail.com, your account password.
The ‘Next’ button will take you configuration complete page with a congratulations message. The Hotmail HTTP e-mail configuration will happen automatically. Finally click on the ‘Finish’ button.
If you find any errors while configuring the Hotmail account, you could try the manually configuring option. In this case, you will need to fill in other fields like account type, HTTP service provider, URL of the server, along with your hotmail account username and password. You could then come out of the Account Settings wizard by clicking on the ‘Close’ button.
Now that your Hotmail account is configured to Microsoft outlook 2007, you should be able to access your inbox on the left hand side. It is a very beautiful interface with which you can now receive, send, and manage your emails.
