The Experience of Emailing from the iPad
Emailing from the iPhone involved a lot of signing in and out of the messages, boxes and accounts. The main reason for the lack of help for the universal inbox is the limited size of the screen. The email support by HTML is quite good and the data detectors take the necessary action on the contact information rather effortlessly.
The Mailing feature of Mac is definitely more reliable and robust. It has a well defined universal inbox along with client side filters/rules (anti spam included), event based detectors of data, smart mailboxes, multi pane view and convenience of a full body search.
Therefore we see that the experience and convenience of email in Mac is better than that on the iPhone. It was a wise decision made by Steve Jobs of not positioning the iPad against Mac Book or Mac, but against the Net Book. The competition for the iPad with respect to the Net Book is the Thunderbird and Outlook. These are just as good as the mail on Mac, but still can be handled by the features in the iPad.
The main features of the iPad which make the experience of Mailing exciting and efficient are the large screen, excellent speed device, visual flourishes like the email stacks and lots more. The other aspects that contribute to the above mentioned cause is the usage of popovers. The iPhone and other similar devices use switches to handle the menu and its icons, but the iPad has popovers or sidebars which make the handling much easier and efficient.
If the server that is being used by the user doesn’t have a good spam filtering mechanism then the iPad’s lack of filtering from the client side allows tons of junk mails to collect in the user’s inbox. The user thus has to manage the piles of unwanted mails manually and it can get really irritating handling such unwanted mails.
An argument can be raised regarding the filtering mechanism. Most of the users that iPad targets might not be affected by the filtering process which is not up to the mark, but still they will prefer having the spam’s filtered and have a clean and spam less inbox. This drawback can be covered by the excellent support between power and portability. The iPad provides the best support between these two important features and has some of the flaws covered by it.
Irrespective of some of the flaws and other areas of concern, the iPad still manages to come at par or even better than the Net Book. One of the areas where it scores over the Net Book is the web mail and more specifically the Gmail. Google provided an experimental support for the iPad and this support has worked wonders as it gives an excellent experience of browsing and accessing your emails.
The server side filters from Gmail neutralize the ill effects of the iPad’s filters and makes it better than what it was before. Overall the iPad makes a great device for emailing and even with some drawbacks it gives you excellent experience of emailing your loved ones or business associates.
