Useful Tips For Editing Or Deleting Sent Text Messages In Skype
Many times, it so happens that you send an instant message while chatting with a friend and suddenly realized that the message was not actually meant for him/her. However, if you are using Skype instant massager, you don’t need to worry about such wrong messages anymore.
Skype offers a feature known as “edit chats’ using which you can modify, delete, edit or recall the instant messages that you have already sent to the recipient during a text conversation.
To edit, delete or recall an instant message sent through Skype text messaging, you need to simply right-click on the text message and select the option “Remove Message” or “Edit Message” to delete or edit it respectively.
If you choose the option “Edit Message”, Skype will offer you a chance to modify or edit your sent text message. Alternatively, if you choose the option “Remove Message”, Skype will prompt for a confirmation for deleting the message.
If you have sent a wrong message to a friend who is offline, you need to just reopen messaging window or go to the history window to find the message and follow the above method to edit or remove it. However, there is a time limitation of 1 hour.
The moment you remove a message, another text message will appear in its place saying that the posted message has been deleted/ removed. If you edit a message, the newly posted message will be tagged as “Edited” signifying that the sender has altered the message after it was initially posted.
However, this Skype feature has some limitations. The sent messages that you remove will not be deleted completely but will just be hidden. Though the recipient will not be able to view the content of the sent message, he/she will get a post message saying that the sender has deleted/ removed the message.
Also, you will be allowed to edit or remove recently sent messages only i.e. the messages which are not older than 1 hour. This trick works in 3.x version of Skype, but the Skype version 4.0 beta seems to have removed the feature.
